Your Hosts
Chris and Colin Maclaren
Colin has semi-retired from architecture, and is now focusing on painting and enjoying the great outdoors. He has climbed many of the peaks in the vicinity, including Mt Cook. He enjoys mountain biking, kayaking and exploring the vast countryside of the Mackenzie country in search of spectacular views for his next painting.
Chris has had a career in education and, although enjoys the outdoor pursuits available around Lake Tekapo, takes a less active approach to life. She loves the peacefulness where she can enjoy her weaving and writing.
Chris and Colin have had close links with the Mackenzie Country for many years. They enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of the area with their guests.
Art Gallery
Watercolour Art by Colin Maclaren
Light and atmospheric effects are the driving force for his paintings. He is committed to using the transparent quality of water colour with the surface of the paper being the only source of white.
Colin is an architect who has painted all his life.
Colin is also an experienced mountaineer and has focused much of his work on the mountains in this area, many of which he has climbed. The awesome expanse of mountains, lake and tussock land, ever changing in the different lights, are a rich source for subjects.
Although his paintings are generally inspired by the New Zealand landscape, recent visits to Italy, France and Great Britain have resulted in a series of European paintings.
Guests are welcome to peruse the gallery and Colin's work can be viewed online at colinmaclaren.glacierrock.co.nz
